What's the meaning of it all?

Allow me to use my first blog post as an explanation of the blog's title and header photo. For those of you unfamiliar with the photo above, the picture to the left is an example of urban graffiti done by unknown person or person(s) in Sydney, Australia. I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of urban graffiti, though I acknowledge that it can be an inconvenience to real estate owners, particularly if the unit is currently used commercially/residentially. In this particular case, the urban graffiti painted on the left was painted over by the owners who were trying to lease the unit.  I think this is a pretty silly way to move a unit for lease but, let's be honest, "captains of industry" are not exactly "captains of intellect," despite what you've been told.  What I absolutely love is the reaction featured in the picture on the right:

THIS WALL USED TO HAVE ART ON IT
NOW IT HAS COCKS

This is precisely the establishment "fuck you" ethos I hope to maintain on this blog.  The appropriate response to establishment idiocy is, in my opinion, dicks on the wall.  All the traditional establishment targets are in play - politicians, journalists, enforcement/defense agencies, "traditional" sports writers, Hollywood TV & filmmakers (not because they are "liberal", but because they are idiots).  I'll also be taking potshots at two sacred cows of the political establishment - our political institutions (like the U.S.Constitution for example) and the American public.  Let's face it, we wouldn't get the gridlock and idiocy we see both in Congress and in our presidential electoral process if our institutions and public didn't specifically demand them.

What will I bring to the political process? Nothing I suppose.  This is a merely a venting forum for me. More specifically, it's a forum for those who are willing to seek out my venting, rather than have it imposed on them by me in person and on facebook.  What will you see here? Hopefully some in-depth political and pop culture analysis flavored by personal experience and anecdote. You will see drunken postings. You will see drunken postings disappear. You will see spelling errors. You will see poor and pithy logical reasoning.  You will see the blogger get fired from his job and end any kind of potential political career.  But hopefully you will be entertained.  Hopefully you will learn something.  I taught political science in a previous life.  I honestly don't think "everybody can do this." Some people simply don't know what the fuck they are talking about (most in fact).  I don't pretend otherwise.  I don't believe in the "equal validity" of all political opinions.  People vote for the wrong candidates. People put religious faith in a political document that was written by slave owners who thought it was a good idea to wear powdered wigs, couldn't predict the formation of political parties, and never heard of the internet.

Will I succeed? Will I post consistently? I hope so. We will find out together I suppose. Enjoy.

  1. My initial reaction was screw this because I get all authoritarian around graffiti but I guess since this is your blog I'll go ahead and read it.

  2. I didn't know you had a new blog - I'll add it to my roll. As soon as I figure out how to do that!
